What to prepare for a Buddhist funeral

A few small preparations make a difficult time less overwhelming. Here is what helps.

When a loved one passes, most of the arrangements are handled by us. But a few things are easier if the family prepares them, and doing so early helps you avoid last-minute stress so you can focus on paying your respects.

Clothing for the final journey

Prepare at least one set of clothing, including undergarments and shoes, to dress your loved one. Families may also provide a traditional longevity suit (寿衣). For Buddhist devotees who have taken precepts (皆依) at a temple, their personal chanting robes may be used during the rites.

A photograph

Choose a suitable photograph in advance for the memorial. If the best photo is a group picture, we can professionally crop and edit it to focus on your loved one.

The death certificate and permits

A doctor must certify the death — at the hospital, or for a passing at home, through a doctor we can link you with on our hotline. The digital death certificate is then used to apply for the cremation or burial permit, which we arrange for you.

Personal and religious items

If you are facing a passing right now and are unsure what to do first, see our step-by-step checklist, or simply call us — we will guide you calmly.
