When a loved one passes, it is hard to think clearly. This simple checklist walks you through the first steps. You do not have to do it alone — one call to our 24-hour hotline on 1800 800 1818 sets everything in motion.
1. Have the death certified
A doctor must certify the death. If it happens in a hospital, the attending doctor issues the certificate. If it happens at home and was expected, a family doctor can certify it, or we can link you with a doctor. If the cause is unclear, the case may go to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) first.
2. Call us — at any hour
Once the death is certified, call us and we can collect your loved one straight away and begin arrangements, day or night. If the passing was sudden or unattended, call the police first.
3. Decide the venue and days
We help you choose where to hold the wake — an HDB void deck, a funeral parlour, or a direct cremation — and how many days it will run.
4. Prepare a few items
Gather a set of clothing and a photograph of your loved one. See what to prepare for the full list. We take care of the permits, the setup, the monks and every other detail.
